Bukit Shahbandar Forest Recreation Park

A network of rolling forest hills just outside the capital, popular with local trail runners

Difficulty
Easy
Duration
1-2.5 hours depending on the loop chosen

A short drive from Bandar Seri Begawan, Bukit Shahbandar's network of interlinked hill trails ranges from an easy 5 Hills loop to a longer, undulating 7 Hills circuit through padauk-planted forest. Well-maintained and clearly marked, it is one of the most accessible ways to get a genuine forest hike close to the capital.

Highlights

  • The easy, beginner-friendly 5 Hills loop
  • The longer, more undulating 7 Hills circuit
  • Shaded padauk forest plantation sections
  • Easy access from Bandar Seri Begawan, popular with local trail runners

Getting there

From Bandar Seri Begawan, drive about 20-25 minutes along the Tutong-Muara Highway toward Jerudong to reach the park entrance.

Safety tips

This is a low-risk, well-marked trail network, though roots and clay sections turn slippery after rain; ordinary trail or running shoes are sufficient for any of the loops.

What to bring

  • Ordinary trail or running shoes
  • Water, especially for the longer 7 Hills loop
  • Sun protection for open sections
  • Insect repellent
