Gunung Angsi

The classic Negeri Sembilan training peak, from the Ulu Bendul forest eco-park

Difficulty
Moderate
Duration
4-6 hours return
Summit elevation
825 m

Gunung Angsi sits in the Angsi Forest Reserve and is the peak most Klang Valley clubs use to test whether a group is ready for something bigger. The Ulu Bendul route is the gentler of the two standard approaches, climbing through dipterocarp forest to a summit clearing. The eco-park at the foot has 290 camping pitches, which is why so many club weekends start here.

Highlights

  • A summit at 825 m reachable in a morning
  • Dipterocarp forest the whole way up
  • The Ulu Bendul eco-park and its river pools at the foot
  • 290 camping pitches, so the trailhead doubles as a base

Getting there

Ulu Bendul is on Route 51 between Seremban and Kuala Pilah, about 15.5 km from Senawang. Buses on the Seremban to Kuala Pilah route pass the entrance, and there is parking at the eco-park for those driving.

Safety tips

A straightforward mountain by the standards of this site, but the last section is steep and root-bound, and it becomes slick rather than merely muddy after rain. Leeches are usual in the wet months. Be down before the afternoon storms rather than caught on the steep ground during one.

What to bring

  • Two litres of water per person
  • Leech socks or salt in the wet months
  • Grippy shoes for the steep upper section
  • A light waterproof, since the storms arrive fast
