Osmeña Peak
Cebu's highest point, a short walk to a jagged ridge nicknamed the province's own Chocolate Hills
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Duration
- 1 to 2 hours return for the peak itself, longer if combined with the Kandungaw Peak ridge walk
- Summit elevation
- 1013 m
At 1,013 m, Osmeña Peak is the highest point in Cebu province, part of the Mantalungon Range above the town of Dalaguete in the island's south. What makes it popular is how little effort it takes to reach a genuinely striking view: a short walk from the tourist checkpoint leads to a narrow, grass-covered ridge of eroded limestone hillocks that has earned the nickname Little Chocolate Hills, with a 360-degree panorama that on a clear day takes in Cebu's own coastline and neighbouring islands across the strait.
Highlights
- A 360-degree summit panorama over southern Cebu and the strait beyond
- Grass-covered limestone hillocks that have earned the Little Chocolate Hills nickname
- The connecting ridge walk to Kandungaw Peak, for those who want to extend the short main trail
- One of the most reliably rewarding effort-to-view ratios on the whole site
Getting there
Dalaguete is about a 3-hour drive south from Cebu City along the coastal highway; from Dalaguete town, a habal-habal motorbike taxi covers the steep mountain road up to the Mantalungon checkpoint. Most independent travellers join or arrange a day tour from Cebu City rather than piecing together public transport for a single-day trip.
Safety tips
The trail itself is short and low-risk, but the ridge is narrow and exposed with real drops either side, so keep a sensible distance from the edges, especially in wind or after rain when the grass is slick.
What to bring
- Wind protection, since the exposed ridge is noticeably breezier than the drive up suggests
- Sun protection, as there is no shade on the summit ridge
- Cash for the registration and guide fee
- Sturdy sandals or trail shoes, since the path can be dusty and loose underfoot
