Dairy Farm Nature Park

A former dairy and granite quarry turned nature park, with Singapore's most photographed water-filled quarry

Difficulty
Easy
Duration
1.5 to 2.5 hours for the full Wallace Trail loop

Dairy Farm Nature Park sits on the site of Singapore's first commercial dairy farm, on the western edge of the Central Catchment area. The Wallace Trail, named for the naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace who collected specimens near here in the 1850s, loops 2.2 km through mostly flat, well-marked paths. Its centrepiece is Singapore Quarry, a disused granite quarry now filled with still, green water and framed by cliffs, a short and popular detour from the main loop.

Highlights

  • Singapore Quarry, a water-filled former granite quarry framed by cliffs
  • The Wallace Trail, named for the naturalist who collected specimens nearby
  • Dairy Farm Quarry, a filled-in former quarry now an open grassy field
  • A direct trail link into Bukit Timah Nature Reserve for a longer day

Getting there

The main entrance on Dairy Farm Road is reached by bus from Hillview or Beauty World MRT stations, both about a 10 to 15 minute ride away. There is a small car park at the entrance that fills up on weekends.

Safety tips

Singapore Quarry looks inviting but swimming is not permitted: the water is deep, cold at depth and has no lifeguards. Shared sections of trail are used by mountain bikers, so stay alert on blind corners, and the paths can turn slick within minutes of rain starting.

What to bring

  • Trail shoes; the gravel sections are uneven in places
  • Water and sun protection, since parts of the loop are unshaded
  • Insect repellent for the quarry-side vegetation
  • A camera for the quarry viewing deck
