Labrador Nature Reserve

Singapore's only natural rocky seashore, with wartime gun battery relics along a short coastal boardwalk

Difficulty
Easy
Duration
45 minutes to 1.5 hours across the open trail segments

Gazetted a nature reserve in 2002, Labrador protects about 10 hectares of coastal secondary vegetation and the last stretch of natural rocky shore on mainland Singapore. The self-guided walk is normally three linked segments: the Alexandra Garden Trail inland, the Berlayar Creek mangrove boardwalk, and the Bukit Chermin coastal boardwalk, past the remains of a British coastal gun battery and tunnels from the Second World War. As of this update the Berlayar Creek boardwalk is closed for improvement works until 31 March 2027, so the walk currently runs shorter than the full three-segment route.

Highlights

  • The last natural rocky shore on mainland Singapore
  • Remains of a British coastal gun battery and wartime tunnels
  • Views across to Sentosa and the shipping lane beyond
  • A short, paved and boardwalked route suited to any fitness level

Getting there

Labrador Park MRT station opens directly onto the reserve, making this one of the easiest areas on this site to reach without a car.

Safety tips

The rocky shore itself is uneven and slippery near the waterline, especially with algae after rain, so watch your footing rather than the view when you are close to the rocks. Otherwise this is one of the gentlest areas on this site.

What to bring

  • Shoes with grip for the rocky shore sections
  • Sun protection: much of the coastal boardwalk is open
  • Water for the walk, though the MRT station is never far
  • A sense of the current works closure, so you are not caught out expecting the Berlayar Creek boardwalk
