At 2,565 metres, Doi Inthanon is the highest point in Thailand, protected within a national park of waterfalls and cloud forest. Two short boardwalk trails, Ang Ka Luang and Kew Mae Pan, loop through moss-draped forest near the summit, while lower trails lead to multi-tiered waterfalls.

Getting there
Doi Inthanon is about 90 minutes by road from Chiang Mai; a rented car, private transfer or a shared songthaew from Chom Thong covers the route.
Safety tips
Trails near the summit are boardwalked and low-risk, but bring warm layers since December and January nights approach freezing, unusual for Thailand.
