Erawan National Park

A seven-tier waterfall trail through the forest of Kanchanaburi

Difficulty
Easy
Duration
2-4 hours for the full seven-tier trail

Erawan National Park centres on a single stream that drops through seven distinct waterfall tiers over a two-kilometre trail, each pool a different shade of turquoise. It is one of the most visited parks in Thailand, easily reached as a day trip from Kanchanaburi town.

Highlights

  • Swimming in the turquoise pools at the lower tiers
  • The steep scramble to the seventh and final tier
  • Fish spa nibbles in the calmer lower pools
  • Kanchanaburi's Death Railway and Bridge on the River Kwai nearby

Getting there

Erawan is about 1.5 hours by road from Kanchanaburi town, reachable by songthaew, rented car or a day-tour transfer.

Safety tips

Rocks around the pools get slippery, and the trail to the top tiers involves some scrambling; wear grippy sandals or shoes rather than flip-flops, and check current tier access since the upper falls sometimes close after heavy rain.

What to bring

  • Swimwear and a change of clothes
  • Grippy water shoes
  • Cash for the entrance fee and small stalls at the base
