Pu Luong protects a limestone valley of terraced rice fields between Hoa Binh and Thanh Hoa, home to Thai and Muong ethnic villages that still farm the land by hand. Trekking routes link stilt-house homestays across the valley floor and up onto forested ridgelines, with the Hieu Waterfall and Kho Muong village's bamboo water wheels as classic waypoints.

Getting there
Pu Luong is about 160 km and 4 to 4.5 hours by road from Hanoi; most visitors arrive by private transfer or a Hanoi trekking tour, often combined with an overnight homestay.
Safety tips
Paths cross rice-terrace edges, streams and the occasional bamboo bridge; a local guide knows the current safe fords and keeps the route clear during and after heavy rain, when paths can wash out.
